This week, we take a look at underemployment in the U.S. and the struggles people face when they’ve lost a good job and are looking for work for the first time in years. Many, if not most of them, can’t find a similar job or similar money and have to be content working jobs they are way over-skilled for, making them, yes, you guessed it, underemployed.
The main problem is a saturated job market, and an overflow of skilled and educated people with major competition for the few good jobs out there that they’re right for. The video we chose is short, but gets to the heart of the matter pretty quickly. In fact, if you look carefully, you’ll see the weary and painful sense of defeat and bitterness behind the eyes of the interview subject, as he talks about looking for work after being let go from his dream job. Enjoy.
